Choose veneer color by skin tone, tooth shade, and smile goals.
Lots of new patients come to our Istanbul clinic, thinking: a perfect Hollywood smile.
The fact is, a radiant smile needs more than just a high level of brightness. It also needs to be harmonious.
This is the treatment plan we start with when you are in the chair with Dentist Polen Akkılıç and her crew. Professor Doctor Coşkun Yıldız writes a lot that a dental veneer shouldn’t look like a porcelain sticker, which is often used as a comparison. It needs to be a natural smile component that you can imagine. Color choice is the basis of that aesthetic success.
Why Shade Selection Matters

Most people think that color picking is just pointing at the plastic chart. Is it so simple?
A dental veneer shade is decided after considering how light, skin tone, and one’s character are integrated.
Here is what the Lema Dental Clinic staff observes daily: a shade that appears perfectly matched under the bright dental office lighting may turn out different when exposed to natural sunlight. That is why our clinic has a comprehensive, multi-layered approach to color matching.
We take into account the following factors for a better match:
- Skin Tone: Your skin color decides the level of contrast. A stark white tooth against dark skin can be very eye-catching. Such shades might be unsuitable for light skin.
- Eye Color: We also examine the sclera, the white of the eye. Matching the veneer brightness with the sclera leads to a more harmonious overall look.
- Age and Tooth Translucency: Teeth are not a solid color all over. Edges are translucent. If the shade chosen is too opaque, the tooth will look fake. We reproduce the way light travels through real enamel.
Shade Options: A Quick Comparison
There are always questions from the clients about how the different categories of shades influence the “mood” of the smile. To help you decide where you want to go with your dental treatment in Turkey, here are the categories with an explanation of the mood they provide:
| Category | Best For | Mood | Our Thinking |
| Natural | Subtle renovation | Mellow, nuanced, natural | Good for a long-term finish. |
| Bleach | Radical transformation | Bright, clean, Hollywood | Better for avoiding artificialness. |
| Custom | Complete mouth reconstruction | Very high level of color and character | Perfect for individuality. |
The “Too White” Trap

This is one of the things we hear most often: “Give me the whitest veneers you have.”
The truth is, the eye is very sensitive and will detect if something is not right. If your teeth are unnaturally white, but your skin tone does not correspond to that level of brightness, the veneers will be the only thing noticed.
Professor Doctor Coşkun Yıldız encourages us to do “vitalit.y” Here, this means a veneer should have subtle color changes.
The area near the gum line should be artificially warmer, while the edges are more translucent.
This is how most healthy and young teeth look.
The Process at Lema Dental Clinic
When you are here for your treatment, we do not rush you. We take a step back to think about your liking first. What we have are:
- DSD (Digital Smile Design): The first thing you get to do is to see the future version of your smile on the computer screen before we get into the procedure.
- The Trial Smile: We practice the temporary one in your mouth so that you get the first impression as to the color and the shape of the tooth.
- Testing in Natural Light: We leave the dental chair area and check that the color still looks good in the natural light after all.
Frequently Asked Questions
The question remains: are you sure about the shade? Veneers are permanent. Once the porcelain is bonded, it does not change color. We invest time during the consultation to ensure you are 100% happy with your choice before we start.
It plays a major role. We see patients trying to force a “Hollywood White” that clashes with their skin. We guide you toward shades that provide a healthy brightness without looking unnatural.
This is a great advantage of ceramic veneers. Unlike natural teeth, which yellow from coffee or tea, high-quality porcelain veneers are very resistant to staining. The color you choose is the color you keep.
There are standard VITA shade guides, but at Lema Dental Clinic, we often customize. We mix opacities and tints to create a shade that is uniquely yours, rather than just picking a number off a chart.
We understand that goal. We can achieve a very bright, aesthetic result while still incorporating “human” elements. We add slight translucency so the smile looks high-end and natural, not artificial.
